Springtime in Second Grade
The St. Joseph Second Graders are so busy this spring! They just returned from spring break and are busy with measurement and will soon be doing three digit addition and subtraction. In social studies, the children are looking forward to Pioneer Day which will be announced soon. In science, the children made their own musical instruments and are now studying electricity. Cursive writing is almost mastered! Logging of reading minutes is still going strong as we make our spring race to get ready for third grade. Most importantly, the children are preparing for First Holy Communion which will take place the last weekend in April and the first full weekend of May. We look forward to sharing this special day with our students and their families. Even with warm spring weather finally arriving, we hope to keep up with our second grade studies. Happy Spring!!! God bless our First Communicants!!!

December in Second Grade
Our social studies compass rose projects turned out great with a touch of the holiday season. Our bartering exercise will be coming up soon! In science the children are learning about the planets. Second graders have been busy in math with regrouping two-digit numbers. Along with regrouping we are studying checking addition, estimating to see if an answer is reasonable, adding money amounts, and adding three two-digit numbers. Cursive continues to be a popular subject in our schedules. The children are working on their Advent good deeds, learning the Act of Contrition, and preparing for our First Reconciliation in January. St. Nicholas Day is just around the corner! It won't be long until our part in the St. Joseph School Christmas Concert!

Compass Rose Social Studies Project
The famous and difficult compass rose project was distributed today for our students to take home! Instructions were included as well as pattern/trace pieces. One large piece of construction paper for background was sent home also or the students may use their own paper or poster board. It was suggested that these could be decorated in the spirit of Christmas (red, green, glitter, pompoms, etc.). We will study directions more in class and display the projects in our halls along with other Christmas decorations. Have fun with this project! If more paper is needed, it is available to our navigators!

November News in Second Grade
November has been an exciting month in Second Grade! We started the month off with our study of gentleness, our Fruit of the Holy Spirit, and Reconciliation. On November 8th, Ryan's father, a professional geologist, spoke to our little scientists about rocks, volcanoes, earthquakes, and the Ring of Fire. On November 10th, Michael B.'s grandfather (a veteran from Vietnam)
and Emmett and Nora F.'s grandfather (a World War II veteran) spoke to our social studies classes for Veterans Day. Be sure to check our parish's Sunday bulletin.
